The Sport of the Soul
Dance Is a Sport, an Art, and a Way of Life
Dance — and ballet in particular — is a physical discipline that develops abilities such as agility, flexibility, and strength. At the same time, it demands focus, commitment, emotional awareness, and courage. That’s why I see dance as the sport of the soul.
Those who train in dance receive a deeply holistic education. And if at some point they choose not to continue dancing, they can pursue almost anything — engineering, science, history, business. Because once you know what it feels like to be truly yourself and to work hard for what you want, there’s no turning back. There’s only the path forward, following your dreams.
Prepared for Success
Beyond what is learned in class, dancers must dedicate extra time at home to practice, memorize, and internalize corrections so they can try again the next day. That’s why people trained in dance are especially prepared to succeed in academics and in any profession that requires intellectual capacity, discipline, and consistent effort.
They understand that stepping onto a stage in front of an audience requires countless hours of dedication and rehearsal. So when the curtain finally rises, they are free — free to dance, free to be themselves — knowing they have the tools they need to achieve whatever they set their minds to.
Always Learning
Ballet is practiced to transmit emotion to an audience, yet it demands physical and mental skills that make it so moving and beautiful. That’s why I have always nurtured my desire to keep growing and learning within this discipline.
It is truly inspiring to witness the conscious, profound changes that take place in people’s lives — whether they become dancers or simply experience dance as spectators.
Whether your path is dance, theater, music, finance, journalism, or anything else, I invite you to find your own reasons to wake up each morning and try again. There is nothing more rewarding than dedicating your time and energy to something that makes you feel free, authentic, and brave every single day of your life.
